X-SESSION
The first two hours will be spent learning a number of voice & body warm-ups, such as spinal drops for alignment to encourage clarity of thought & speech and free and easy breathing; tongue & soft palate stretches to open (or close for character choices) the space in the back of the throat; breath capacity & range work, good for vocal stamina; articulation exercises for nimble movement from accent to accent, character to character, and for being expressive within a manipulated voice. Toward the end of the class, we will do a second, mini warm-up, moving quickly through a number of the same exercises, so participants see that a good voice & body warm-up can be done within a short amount of time, leaving you vocally freer than you were before. In this way, participants will learn how easy and beneficial it can be to incorporate a warm-up into their daily lives. A regular warm-up helps the voice actor learn to be expressive and transformative with ease, rather than by pushing, which can lead to vocal burnout and bring an otherwise talented actor's career to a halt. Actors will begin and end the session with a few lines of text, to compare and contrast the feeling of their voices before and after a good warm-up. Be good to your voice & your voice will be strong, flexible and resilient so your work will flourish !
- Experience a great daily warm-up that will improve vocal variety and ease by way of inner relaxation, breathing power, range & articulation.
- Learn a few things to do right before recording to encourage spinal alignment and breath dropping in freely, deeply, quickly when recording.
- Improve your accent work & vocal transformation by relaxing the jaw & tongue, creating space in the back of the throat and activating the lips.
